The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by the production companies, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on the streaming service on October 29.
